Thermally Modified Timber (TMT)

For TMT, wood treated at high temperature from 160°C up to 220°C in controlled atmosphere with low oxygen content (less than 2%) in gaseous atmosphere or atmospheres of nitrogen, oil, steam or treatment in vacuum is used.
Due to the controlled modification process the chemical composition change, the colour darkened, the water uptake decrease, the shrinking and swelling is reduced, the mechanical properties decrease and the durability increase significantly by the intensity of the process.
The changes in the diverse materials characteristics are dependent on the process parameters, the process conditions and the wood species.
